In both subtle and obvious ways, God’s people are often tempted to give their hearts and affections to things other than God. To live, act, think, and speak in ways that don’t align with his will. However far we might stray from our first love, whatever sin and desires attempt to take God’s place in our lives, James reminds us that God gives more grace to those who humble themselves before him. As he writes, “But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6).
