During the worst of times, the Old Testament prophets spoke of a future day when the mercy of God would shine through the darkness of Israel’s sin and suffering. 1 Peter 2:9-10 declares that the mercy of God has brought about a chosen people, united in Christ. Those rescued in Christ have a new purpose: declaring the glory and greatness of God and his mercy.
